I constantly strive to keep the information on this insurance blog fresh. Recently, Kim, my new business specialist, joined us at Huntley Wealth, so I thought what better way to bring you fresh content than from an insurance virgin, learning the ins and outs of the industry every day.

New to life insurance? Welcome to my world! Until a couple of months ago, life insurance never crossed my mind. Now terms like Universal Life, Temporary Insurance agreement, Rate Class, and 30 year term life insurance are part of my daily vocabulary. It’s also very interesting to learn about the lesser-known details of insurance contracts, such as the suicide clause or two year contestability clause.
Then there’s the dark side of the insurance industry, which Chris has taught me about. This includes quoting prospective life insurance purchasers “teaser rates” to take an application when the agent knows full well the applicant will not be able to qualify for the premium he or she is quoting. By the way, we don’t do that here. Chris always quotes the price he thinks they’ll pay, and if he’s not sure, he looks into it and calls them back when he knows. Yesterday, for example he told me about a 60 year old gentleman who called in who had had a heart valve replacement 6 years ago. Chris deals with a lot of heart issues, but told the man he wasn’t sure how the insurance companies would rate that, so he made some calls and will get back to him later.
So here I am, such a short time later, fully conversant in insurance-speak! Are you looking to replace income? Provide a benefit to cover estate taxation? Want to offset burial expenses? There are countless reasons to purchase a life insurance policy, and all of them seem to have one thing in common…taking care of our loved ones when we can no longer be there in person. And if we don’t take care of them…they will be left to do it themselves…the tax man cometh!
What I’ve learned is that there is never a better time than TODAY to get life insurance coverage. We are only getting older, and the older we are, the more expensive we are to insure. We will never be younger than we are today, and probably will never be healthier, so today is a good day to find out more about life insurance…for our loved ones!
